W tym odcinku UMED Science zapraszamy do zapoznania się z przełomowym projektem cALL POL, który stanowi kamień milowy w badaniach nad ostrą białaczką limfoblastyczną (ALL). Najczęściej spotykanym typem białaczki u dzieci jest właśnie ostra białaczka limfoblastyczna (łac. acute lymphoblastic leukemia, ALL) – około 75 proc. najmłodszych z rozpoznaniem ma tę postać choroby. ALL jest również najczęstszym nowotworem wieku dziecięcego – jest ona diagnozowana u około 23 proc. dzieci z chorobą nowotworową.
Naukowcy z Uniwersytety Medycznego w Łodzi – pod kierownictwem prof. Wojciecha Młynarskiego – oraz badacze ze Śląskiego Uniwersytetu Medycznego stworzyli projekt CALL-POL, by walczyć z tą bardzo niebezpieczną chorobą. Przed jego rozpoczęciem wszystkie dzieci w Polsce chorujące na ALL były leczone niemal identycznie. W ramach projektu prowadzone są bardzo szczegółowe analizy genetyczne, których celem jest diagnoza konkretnych defektów genetycznych. Umożliwia to wybranie terapii, która jest dostosowana do konkretnego podtypu choroby i jest najlepszą możliwą dla danego pacjenta.
